RAPIDS , IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for
the spring 2006 season. One hundred ninety-five student-athletes
from the Conference’s six spring sports met the requirements
for recognition.
To
be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors, a student-athlete
must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in
academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average
(on a 4.0 scale).
The 2006
IIAC Spring All-Academic Team is comprised of 74 seniors, 73
sophomores and 48 juniors. Luther College has a Conference-high
39 student-athletes on the team followed by Wartburg College
with 33 student-athletes and Central College with 25 student-athletes.
One hundred
nine of the student-athletes honored participated in track and
field, including 60 women and 49 men. Twenty-six softball players,
25 baseball players, 19 men’s tennis players and 16 men’s
golfers round out the Team.
Forty-five
(23.1 percent) of the 2006 Spring All-Academic Team earned IIAC
All-Academic honors in the fall or winter season. Eleven of
Luther’s 39, eight of Wartburg’s 33 and seven of
Central’s 25 Spring All-Academic Team members earned similar
honors in the fall or winter.
