May 17, 2006

CEDAR RAPIDS , IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for the spring 2006 season. One hundred ninety-five student-athletes from the Conference’s six spring sports met the requirements for recognition.

To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors, a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

The 2006 IIAC Spring All-Academic Team is comprised of 74 seniors, 73 sophomores and 48 juniors. Luther College has a Conference-high 39 student-athletes on the team followed by Wartburg College with 33 student-athletes and Central College with 25 student-athletes.

One hundred nine of the student-athletes honored participated in track and field, including 60 women and 49 men. Twenty-six softball players, 25 baseball players, 19 men’s tennis players and 16 men’s golfers round out the Team.

Forty-five (23.1 percent) of the 2006 Spring All-Academic Team earned IIAC All-Academic honors in the fall or winter season. Eleven of Luther’s 39, eight of Wartburg’s 33 and seven of Central’s 25 Spring All-Academic Team members earned similar honors in the fall or winter.
