WAVERLY,
IOWA . . . Wartburg College junior second baseman Steph
Howe of Clinton garnered third team Louisville Slugger/NFCA
Division III All-American honors from the National Fastpitch
Coaches Association Thursday evening, May 18.
Howe, the only Iowa Conference player on any of the three honor
squads, turned in sparkling numbers in her third season with
the Knights, hitting .429 with a team-high 16 doubles, 13 home
runs and 56 RBIs. Her fielding numbers were just as impressive
as she committed only four errors in 155 chances for a .974
fielding percentage. She led the Iowa Conference in home runs,
total bases (126) and runs scored (47) and ranked second in
batting average (.429), hits (67), RBIs and doubles. In the
NCAA Division III statistics report for games played through
May 7, Howe was in the top 50 of slugging percentage, home runs
per game and RBIs per game.
Howe
is Wartburg’s first playing All-American since former
standout Jamie Porter earned first team honors following the
1998 campaign. She is just the fourth Knights’ softball
player in school history to garner the honor, joining Porter
(1997 and 1998), Kris Kuper (1987) and Cindy Suess (1985).
