WAVERLY, IOWA . . . Former Wartburg College women’s cross country/track and field standout Missy Buttry of Shenandoah was named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s Division III Silver Anniversary squad Tuesday, June 13. The award coincides with the celebration of 25 years of women competing in the NCAA outdoor track and field championships.

Buttry was the group’s 5,000-meter representative. She won the outdoor 5,000 title three consecutive years (2003-05) and no other runner in outdoor championships history has come within 20 seconds of her 2003 winning time of 15:51.23.

One of the most decorated Division III student-athletes, the former Knights standout won 12 individual national championships in cross country and track and field. She ended her collegiate career tied for third in all divisions among all-time women's individual national titleholders.

Buttry currently competes professionally for the Running USA/Reebok club of Thousand Oaks, Calif. She is training for the United States Track and Field Outdoor Championships’ 5,000-meter race, set for 8 p.m. Friday, June 23, at the Michael Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind. Buttry, in her most recent outing, placed ninth in the 1,500 meters at the Victoria International Track Classic in British Columbia June 11.
