STORM
LAKE, IOWA . . . Derrick Sleezer has been named the
head women's golf coach at Buena Vista University. Sleezer succeeds
Tom Bohnenkamp who resigned in May.
Sleezer
has been the head girl's golf coach at Washington High School
in Cherokee for the past four seasons. He led the club to consecutive
conference championships in 2005 and 2006, which were the first
league titles in the program's history. Sleezer also guided
the squad to its first appearance at the state tournament in
2005.
"I
am excited to have another quality individual join the Buena
Vista coaching staff," said Buena Vista athletics director
Jan Travis. "Sleezer brings enthusiasm, knowledge of the
sport, and many successful years of playing the game to our
program."
Sleezer
was a three-year letter winner on the golf team at Drake University,
where he earned a bachelor's degree in marketing. He was a member
of two state champion teams while at Aurelia High School. Sleezer,
who is also employed as a manager at Sleezer Fertility Center
in Aurelia, has won the individual title at the Aurelia Open
five times and was the Sioux Valley Match Play champion in 1998.
"I
am really looking forward to joining the Buena Vista staff and
continuing the success the program has enjoyed," Sleezer
commented. "I look forward to having a good season in the
upcoming school year."
Buena Vista
has won three Iowa Conference Championships since 2000 and has
finished in the top three in the league each of the past 11
seasons. The Beavers will begin the 2006 fall season at the
UW-Eau Claire Blugold Fall Invite during the first weekend in
September.
