DUBUQUE,
IOWA . . . The Loras College athletic department today
announced the hiring of Katie Rasmusson as
Head Softball Coach. Rasmusson takes over for Sarah Anderson,
who resigned after three seasons at the helm to devote herself
full time as a physical therapist.
“Katie
will be an excellent addition to our staff,” Loras Director
of Athletics Chad Walthall said. “She has competed as
an athlete at Loras and has a real understanding and passion
of what a Loras experience means to student athletes. I have
complete confidence that she will be able to continue to take
the program forward.”
Rasmusson
is familiar with the Loras program having served as an assistant
coach for three years under Anderson. During the three years
as coach, Loras won 40 games. The 2005 team finished 9-7 in
the tough Iowa Conference and tied for fourth in the league.
"I
am extremely honored to be taking over the softball program,”
Rasmusson said. “The opportunity to coach at my alma mater
and in such a well respected softball conference will be exciting
opportunity."
A
native of Epworth, Iowa, Rasmusson completed both her undergraduate
and graduate degrees at Loras. She competed in both basketball
and softball while at Loras and was a member of the 2002-03
Iowa Conference Champion women’s basketball team. In her
senior season, Rasmusson hit .271 with two homers and 12 RBI.
In the 2002 season, she was named first-team all-Iowa Conference
when she batted .418 on the season.
After
graduating in 2003, Rasmusson joined the softball staff as an
assistant while working towards her master’s degree. Rasmusson
will also have teaching responsibilities at the institution.
