STORM LAKE , IOWA . . . Luther Olson has been named the head men's and women's tennis coach at Buena Vista University. He will begin his coaching duties immediately.

Olson, who has experience teaching junior high and coaching several sports, served as the head women's tennis coach at the University of Wisconsin-Stout during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Since that time, he has been working on completing his Master of Science degree in recreation administration from Aurora University. For the past two years, Olson has been employed as a tennis instructor at the Four Lakes Athletic Club in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. He has also served as a graduate assistant at Outdoor Wisconsin Leadership Synergies since January 2004.

A 1997 graduate of North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, Olson played number one singles and doubles during his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. He was also a member of the NCAA III national championship cross country team in 1993 and earned All-America honors in cross country in 1995.

"We are excited to welcome Olson on board," said BVU athletics director Jan Travis. "We look forward to him working with our student-athletes and we are excited about his energy and experience he brings to Buena Vista."

In addition to his coaching duties, Olson will serve as the school's director of intramurals. Buena Vista's women's tennis squad opens its season on September 1 by traveling to Indianola, Iowa to face Simpson College. The men's club begins play in February.
