MOUNT
VERNON , IOWA . . . Former Cornell player Tim Preston
has been hired as the head men’s tennis coach for the
Rams. Preston played for Cornell in 2002, compiling a record
of 11-15 in singles (primarily at No. 2) and 18-11 in doubles.
He also played two seasons at Simpson.
He
replaces Rusty Graff, who resigned last spring as the winningest
coach in Cornell men’s tennis history, compiling a record
of 78-88 in nine seasons. The Rams were 11-11 last season and,
under Graff, had a string of three consecutive winning campaigns
from 2000-02.
Preston
earned a bachelor’s degree in religion from the University
of Northern Iowa in 2003. He is currently part of a team of
tennis professionals teaching private and group lessons at Westfield
Tennis Club in Cedar Rapids.
Cornell
wrestling coach Drew Pariano has resigned to become an assistant
wrestling coach at Northwestern (Ill.) University, where he
was a three-time national qualifier for the Division I Wildcats.
Pariano inherited a Cornell program that went 2-16 in 2002-03.
In his second season (2004-05), the Rams were 6-12. Cornell’s
preseason roster includes 24 wrestlers recruited by Pariano.
