PELLA,
IOWA . . . Central
College’s Jeff McMartin has been named as one of 10 “hot”
coaches in the NCAA Division III by American Football Monthly
magazine.
McMartin, 37, is in his second year as the Dutch head coach.
He was cited as being “primed for success” and that
Central appears poised for a move back to the top. After piloting
Central to a 6-4 campaign in 2004, McMartin and the Dutch are
off to a 3-1 start with a young squad in 2005. The magazine
noted that all four of Central’s losses last season were
by seven points or less.
“We’re
very pleased with the developmental progress Coach McMartin
has made with our football program,” said athletics director
Al Dorenkamp. “He’s a Central College person and
exhibits the kind of values that Central has promoted for years
and years. He’s developed a good recruiting plan and it’s
clear that bright days are ahead for Central College football.”
A
1990 Central graduate, McMartin returned to his alma mater after
serving as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for
four years at De Pauw University (Ind.). He was the offensive
line coach at Beloit College (Wis.) for five seasons and was
the defensive line coach at the University of Rochester (N.Y.)
and Illinois Wesleyan University. He was a graduate assistant
at Wake Forest University (N.C.), where he earned his master’s
degree.
