IOWA
CITY , IOWA . . . Wartburg’s Erin Dohlman posted
the lone sub-80 score in the third round of the Iowa Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (IIAC) women’s golf Championship at
Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City on Friday to extend her lead
in the individual race to 15 strokes and help her team extend
its lead in the team race to 59. The 72-hole Championship concludes
on Saturday at Finkbine.
Behind
Dohlman and Andrea Schiltz’s 82, the day’s second
lowest round, the Knights finished the day with a 327, for a
54-hole score of 961. Simpson College shot a 352 on the day
(second-best team round) and moved into a second-place tie with
Buena Vista University at 1020.
With
team results available for 19 of the 23 women’s golf Championships
hosted by the IIAC, Wartburg is on the verge of breaking the
mark for widest margin of victory. In 1997, Simpson defeated
runner-up Buena Vista by 41 strokes and in 1985, Central defeated
Luther by 40 strokes (both were 36-hole Championships).
Dohlman’s
54-hole score of 228 (77-73-78) is good for a 15-stroke lead
over Schiltz (82-79-82) and Buena Vista’s Jennifer Stork
(78-79-86). Simpson’s Steph Schenfeld (86-75-84) and Wartburg’s
Kate Thompson (84-77-84) are tied for fourth at 245.
The
widest individual margin of victory in IIAC Championship history
is 15 strokes by Simpson’s Hannah Willenborg over Buena
Vista’s Debbie Zorn in 1999. The last time teammates finished
1-2 in the IIAC Championship was 2002 (Simpson’s Senta
Willenborg and Amber DeRiemacker). The last time teammates went
one-two-three was 2001 (Buena Vista’s Zorn, Jen Einck
and Betsy Hall).
