WARTBURG REPEATS AS WOMEN’S GOLF CHAMPION; WARTBURG’S DOHLMAN CONFERENCE MEDALIST & MVP; LORAS’ UDELHOFEN NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR

October 8, 2005

IOWA CITY , IOWA . . . Behind its first-ever individual Medalist, Wartburg College won its second straight Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) women’s golf Championship after shooting a final round 343 at Finkbine Golf Club on Saturday. The Knights led the Tournament wire-to-wire and posted the low team score each of the four rounds.

Wartburg finished the 72-hole Championship at 1304, outdistancing second-place Buena Vista (1373) by an IIAC-record 69 strokes and third-place Simpson (1378). Loras finished fourth with a 1381.

Senior Erin Dohlman, like her team, led the individual race wire-to-wire. She finished the 72-hole Championship with a 314 (77-73-78-86) and finished 15 strokes ahead of Buena Vista’s Jennifer Stork. Dohlman’s 314 is the lowest total since the Conference went to a 72-hole Championship in 2003. The 15-stroke margin of victory equals the Conference Championship record set in 1999 by Simpson’s Hannah Willenborg over Buena Vista’s Debbie Zorn in 1999.

A trio of Wartburg golfers, Bre Pleggenkuhle, Andrea Schiltz and Megan Cress finished 19-strokes back with a 333. Following a sudden death playoff, Pleggenkuhle finished third, Schiltz finished fourth and Cress finished fifth. It is the first time in Conference history teammates have finished in four of the top-five spots.

Simpson’s Steph Schenfeld finished sixth with a 335 followed by Wartburg’s Kate Thompson who won a playoff with Central’s Sharilyne Hoekstra after both golfers carded a 336. Luther’s Lyndsay Thies (337) and Loras’ Amy Kemp (342) round out the All-Conference honorees as top-10 finishers.

Dohlman was selected Conference Most Valuable Player for her performance during the season which included a 78.8 stroke average and eight rounds in the 70s including a streak of six straight that ended on Saturday.

Loras’ Denise Udelhofen was named IIAC Coach of the Year after leading the Duhawks to a fourth-place Conference finish. The team improved from its sixth-place finish in 2004.
