IOWA CONFERENCE CROWNS WOMEN'S TENNIS INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONS

October 8, 2005

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Behind six individual Champions and top-three finishes in all nine flights, Luther College amassed 76 points at the Individual Tournament of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) women’s tennis Championship and will be the top-seed at next Saturday’s Team Tournament at Central College.

The Norse will be joined in Pella by Coe College, Cornell College and Central College as the top four teams from the Individual Tournament advance to the Team Tournament which begins at 10:00 a.m. Coe finished second with 67 points behind three Champions and two runners-up. Cornell finished with 62 points on the efforts of four second place and a pair of third place finishes. Central College totaled 57 points with one second place and three third place finishes.

The Luther trio of Molly Beyer, Tasha Allemang and Tara Huinker each won their second straight individual title. Beyer won at #3 and Allemang won at #4, last year they won the opposite flight. Huinker repeated as the #5-singles Champion. Allemang teamed with Annalise Conaway for the #2 doubles title and Beyer teamed with Amy Christenson for the #3 doubles title.

Coe’s Molly Fiala and Rachel Lenoch were also dual Champions. Fiala won the #1 singles title, Lenoch won the #2 singles title and the pair teamed for the #1 doubles title. Luther's Taylor Cochrane won #6 singles.

All-Conference: The semifinalists in #1, #2 and #3 singles, the finalists in #3, #4, #5 singles and #1 doubles and the Champions in #2 and #3 doubles are recognized as All-Conference. The Conference Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year will be voted on by the Conference coaches following the Team Tournament.
