CEDAR
RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Five Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (IIAC) soccer student-athletes, three women and two
men, were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District
VII Soccer Teams selected by the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced on Thursday.
Buena
Vista University defender Jodi Coleman (Denison,
Iowa/Denison-Schleswig) and Wartburg College goaltender Jessica
Archer (Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln) were named to the
Academic All-District VII Women’s Soccer First Team. Simpson
College defender Megan Hauswald (Omaha, Neb./Millard
South) was named to the Second Team. Coleman was a First Team
selection in 2004.
Men’s
players earning Academic All-District honors were Buena Vista
defender Eric Saxton (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine)
and Central College forward Nate Bill (Hartsburg,
Mo./Southern Boone County). Only a First Team was selected on
the men’s side. Saxton also earned ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-District honors in 2004.
Coleman
is a junior accounting and business education major with a 3.96
grade point average. Archer is a sophomore chemistry major with
a 3.964 GPA. Hauswald is a senior elementary education major
with a 3.695 GPA.
Bill is
a junior chemistry major with a 3.71 GPA. Saxton is a junior
business management major with a 3.95 GPA.
Thirteen
student-athletes were named to each Team and members of the
First Team move on to the national Academic All-America®
ballot. The men’s ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America®
Team is scheduled to be announced on Monday, November 21 and
the women’s Team is scheduled to be announced on Tuesday,
November 22.
To be eligible
for selection to the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete
must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing,
be a starter or key reserve and possess at least a 3.20 cumulative
grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
District
VII College Division includes NCAA Division II, NCAA Division
III and NAIA schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana,
Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
