218 STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for the Fall 2005 season. Two hundred eighteen student-athletes from the Conference’s eight fall sports met the requirements for recognition.

To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

The Fall 2005 All-Academic Team is comprised of 76 seniors, 71 juniors and 71 sophomores. Luther College has a Conference-high 36 student-athletes on the Team followed by Simpson College (33 student-athletes), Central College (25 student-athletes) and Cornell College (25 student-athletes).

Fifty-seven of the student-athletes honored are soccer players, 33 women and 24 men. Forty-seven of the honorees are cross country runners, 27 women and 20 men. Rounding out the All-Academic Team are 42 football players, 32 volleyball players, 20 women’s golfers and 20 women’s tennis players.
