RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Wartburg College’s Keith
Solverson highlighted the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference’s (IIAC) participation at the NCAA cross country
National Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University as
the senior runner earned All-American honors with his 21st-place
finish in a time of 26:12.1.
Solverson
and his teammates, as well as their Knights female counterparts
qualified as a team for the Championships. Loras College sophomore
Ben Grant, Luther College senior Adam
Bohach and freshman Amber Uhlenhake qualified
as individuals.
Wartburg’s
men’s team finished sixth with 247 points. The University
of Wisconsin-LaCrosse won the men’s title with 94 points.
In addition to Solverson, freshman Tim McKenna
(31st of team qualifying runners, 53rd overall, 26:48.7), junior
Kevin Balster (50th of team qualifying runners,
80th overall, 27:03.3), junior Patrick Johnson (60th
of team qualifying runners, 92nd overall , 27:11.7) and senior
Ben Carlson (94th of team qualifying runners,
136th overall, 27:35.4) scored for the Knights.
Bohach
finished 109th in a time of 27:19.0 and Grant finished 140th
in a time of 27:37.6. Non-scorers for Wartburg were sophomore
Andy Hodge (167th, 27:57.5) and senior Scott
Cross (191st, 28:23.6). Williams College senior Neal
Holtschulte was the individual National Champion finishing in
a time of 25:13.8.
On
the women’s side, Wartburg finished 20th with 444 points.
SUNY Geneseo won the women’s title with 88 points. Scoring
for Wartburg were freshman Nicole Calabrese (26th
of team qualifying runners, 46th overall, 23:14.1), sophomore
Marcy Rahn (58th of team qualifying runners,
98th overall, 23:57.9), junior Jill Wagaman (114th
of team qualifying runners, 158th overall, 24:27.8), freshman
Emily Van Oosbree (120th of team qualifying
runners, 164th overall 24:41.1) and sophomore Julie
Ridenour (126th of team qualifying runners, 170th overall,
24:46.0).
Uhlenhake
finished 53rd in a time of 23:17.8. Non-scorers for Wartburg
were freshman Annie Ripslinger (173rd, 24:50.4)
and senior Jill Robertson (182nd, 24:57.4).
Gustavus Adolphus College junior Hailey Harren was the individual
National Champion finishing in a time of 21:51.9.
