CEDAR FALLS, IOWA . . . Wartburg College head men's basketball coach Dick Peth earned his 400th career victory, as his Knights upended the University of Dubuque 69-63 here Saturday afternoon. He's the 32nd active coach in NCAA Division III to gain the 400-win milestone and the third to do so this season, joining York College of Pennsylvania's Jeff Gamber and Baldwin-Wallace's Steve Bankston.

The win ended a three-game losing string for Wartburg in Iowa Conference action. The Knights (9-13 overall, 3-10 IIAC) conclude a current three-game homestand against league-leading Loras College of Dubuque Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 8 p.m. Freshman guard Jarrett Williams of Chicago, Ill., sparked the victory, tallying 17 points off the bench which included a five-of-nine effort from outside the arc and picking up a team-high three steals.

Peth, a native of Tomah, Wisconsin, has developed a strong resume as a head coach in NCAA Divisions II and III. He is the third-winningest head coach at Wartburg with a 179-82 record, standing behind only the legendary Buzz Levick (510 wins) and Ax Bundgaard (187 wins). His Knights' teams have produced the only string of five consecutive 20-win seasons in school history (2000-2005), three Iowa Conference championships (2000-01, 2004-05, and 2005-06) and one NCAA Division III national tournament appearance (2000-01).

Prior to arriving in Waverly, he led the University of Denver to three NCAA Division II national tourney trips, 18-or-more wins seven times and 221 wins, which still stands as the program's record. Peth played collegiately at the University of Iowa, captaining the 1979 Big 10 championship and NCAA tournament team for former head coach Lute Olsen.
