CEDAR
RAPIDS , IOWA . . . Homer Screws has been named the
head men's and women's soccer coach at Coe College, announced
Monday by Director of Athletics John Chandler.
"We
are excited to have Homer back on our athletics staff,"
said Chandler. "He will bring a great deal of knowledge
and enthusiasm to our soccer programs."
Screws returns
to the college ranks after spending the last several years coaching
club soccer in Eastern Iowa. He was the head men's soccer coach
at Coe from 1992 to 1998. He compiled a 27-42-7 record in his
five years at the helm, including a second-place finish in the
Midwest Conference in 1995. His 27 wins is the most by any coach
in Coe soccer history.
While coaching
the Cedar River Soccer Club, he led them to three Under-18 State
Championships and the team was ranked as high as ninth in the
nation.
"Homer
has been an integral part of many successful programs at all
levels of competition," said Chandler. "We look forward
to the leadership and guidance he will provide our student-athletes."
The Coe
women's soccer team is coming off of a 7-10-1 season while the
men's team was 0-19-1 in 2006.
