FIVE NAMED TO ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS

CEDAR RAPIDS , IOWA . . . Five Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) basketball players, three women and two men, were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII College Division Teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Luther College forward Ashley TeKippe (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII women’s basketball Second Team. Simpson College center Ashley Katch (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) and Wartburg College guard LaToshia Burrell (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) were named to the All-District Third Team. The Academic All-District honors are the first for each of the three student-athletes.

Central College guard Brett DeHoogh (Clive, Iowa/West Des Moines Valley) and Coe College guard Brian Brungard (Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) were both selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII men’s basketball Second Team. DeHoogh was a Third Team Academic All-District selection last year.

TeKippe is a junior biology-pre medicine major with a 3.96 grade point average. Katch is a junior corporate communications major with a 3.21 GPA. Burrell is a senior fitness management major with a 3.90 GPA.

DeHoogh is a junior math major with a 3.84 GPA. Brungard is a junior education major with a 3.95 GPA.

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing, be a starter or key reserve and possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

District VII College Division includes NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
