77 STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for the 2006-07 winter season. Seventy-seven student-athletes from the Conference’s five winter sports met the requirements for recognition.

To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

The 2006-07 Winter All-Academic Team is comprised of 27 sophomores, 27 juniors and 23 seniors. Luther College has a Conference-high 23 student-athletes of the Team followed by Coe College (13 student-athletes) and Loras College (11 student-athletes).

Thirty-nine of the student-athletes honored are basketball players, including 28 women and 11 men. Twenty-seven swimmers are on the All-Academic Team including 21 women and six men. Eleven wrestlers also made the Team.

Three members of the 2006-07 Winter All-Academic Team earned similar honors during the fall season – Dubuque senior Jenica Kester (golf/basketball), Luther junior Anthony Brantner (football/basketball) and Simpson sophomore Jayna Fischbach (volleyball/basketball).
