DECORAH,
IOWA . . . Making his first trip to the NCAA Division
III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, freshman Michael
Pettengill (Vinton, Iowa/Fort Mills S.C.) returned
home with honorable mention All-America honors in the 100 breaststroke.
Pettengill,
who qualified for the national meet in both the 100 and 200
breaststroke, finished 10th overall in the 100 breaststroke.
He posted a time of 57.11, establishing a new school record.
The top eight finishers in each event earn All-America honors.
The next eight are considered honorable mention All-Americans.
Pettengill
did not make the top 16 in the 200 breaststroke. He finished
20th with a time of 2:07.70. He also swam what is called a bonus
event - an event he did not qualify in but could compete in
because he was in the national meet. He chose the 200 IM where
he finished 47th with a time of 2:04.67.
