CITY, IOWA . . . Behind the efforts of two sub-par
rounds and four golfers in the top-four, Central College extended
its lead in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC)
men’s golf Championship by shooting a Tournament low round
289 at Finkbine Golf Course on Saturday and holds a 26 stroke
lead through 36 holes with 14-over-par 590.
Central’s
Andy Petersen, who led the Tournament after
round one, shot a 2-under-par 70 on Saturday and sits atop the
individual leaderboard with a 1-under 143. Teammate Joel
Winters was also under-par in the second round, shooting
a 71 and is five strokes behind Petersen in second-place midway
through the Championship. Isaac Rodenberg (75-74—149)
and Brett Meyer (76-74—150) are third
and fourth following second round 74s which tied Coe’s
Chris Buhr and Wartburg’s Blake
Halvorsen for the day’s third lowest round.
Luther’s
Ben Hanson (78-75) and Simpson’s Eric
Adams (77-76) and David Combs (78-75)
are tied for fifth at 153 through 36-holes.
Simpson
maintained its grasp on second-place with a second round 309
and sits at 616 through 36-holes, eight strokes better than
Buena Vista and Luther who are tied for third at 624 following
second rounds of 310 and 312, respectively. Defending Champion
Wartburg is fifth after shooting 311 on Saturday (629 through
36-holes).
The 72-hole
IIAC Championship concludes next Friday and Saturday (April
27-28) at The Meadows Golf Club in Asbury. Tee times begin at
11:00 a.m. on Friday with players from Coe, Dubuque and Cornell
followed by golfers from Luther, Wartburg and Loras then Central,
Simpson and Buena Vista. Saturday’s tee times begin at
9:00 a.m. with pairings based on individual scores following
Friday’s rounds.
