USTFCCCA ANNOUNCES ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has announced its All-Academic Teams and individuals for the 2006-07 season.

Luther ranked 15th of the 73 Division III women's programs recognized after accumulating a 3.442 GPA, tops among schools in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The IIAC led all conferences with eight All-Academic teams on the women's side. Simpson (3.433), Wartburg (3.358), Cornell (3.350), Buena Vista (3.273), Loras (3.230), Dubuque (3.220), and Central (3.212) were also among the 73 NCAA Division III women's programs that received mention.

Individuals from the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference claiming all-academic status consisted of: Central's Alicia Whisner, Angie Berry, Chelsey Keller, Kari Hutchinson, and Rachel Boeke; Loras' Abby Erion, Elizabeth McAtee, Ellen Thys, Lisa Ballard, and Whitney Calvert; Luther's Elise Bennett, Emily Pankow, Jessica Jewell, and Rachel Wobeter; Simpson's Kelsey Hagerty, Laura Hupp, and Lauren Bucklin; and Wartburg's Amy Koester, Bridget Burns, Chelsey Jacobs, Emily VanOosbree, Hannah Baker, Heidi Porter, Jenny Kordick, Jill Wagaman, Kelsea Cannon, Kelsey Steffans, Rachel Brincks,and Stephanie Arey.

On the men's side, four Iowa Conference programs were recognized led by Luther with a 3.154 GPA. Simpson (3.110), Cornell (3.040), and Wartburg (3.036) were also among the 47 NCAA Division III men's programs to receive honors.

Iowa Conference individuals claiming all-academic status included: Central's Adam Wolf, Alex Miller, Ben Bollard, Cody Huisman, and Guy Dierikx; Loras' Geoff Kaiser, Jayson Dayton, and Kevin Oberfoell; Luther's Matthew Busche, Michael Tangen, Ryan Potter, Tyler Sherden, and Zach Tucker; and Wartburg's Bradley Schmitt, Brian Chenoweth, Brian Schmidt, Derek Peth, John Kuckelman, Michael Dana, and Scott Tjeerdsma.

To be nominated, a team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative GPA, while individuals must have a 3.250 GPA and obtain a NCAA qualifying mark in their respective event.
