FOUR NAMED TO ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT SOCCER TEAMS

CEDAR RAPIDS , IOWA . . . Four Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) soccer student-athletes were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII College Division Soccer Teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced on Thursday.

Buena Vista University defender Eric Saxton (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) was the lone IIAC representative on the men’s soccer Academic All-District VII Team. He was also an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honoree in 2004 and 2005.

Buena Vista defender Jodi Coleman (Denison, Iowa/Denison-Schleswig) and Coe College midfielder Jenny McArdle (Sioux City, Iowa/West) were named to the women’s soccer Academic All-District VII First Team, and Luther College goalkeeper Lilly Steinberg (Portland, Ore./LaSalle) was named to the Second Team. Coleman is a three-time Academic All-District First Team honoree and was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® last year.

Saxton is a senior business management major with a 3.87 grade point average. Coleman is a senior accounting and business education major with a 3.97 GPA. McArdle is a junior undecided major with a 4.0 GPA. Steinberg is a senior Spanish and English major with a 3.75 GPA.

Academic All-District First Team members move on to the national ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® ballot. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® men’s soccer Team is scheduled to be announced on Monday, November 20 and the women’s soccer Team is scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, November 21.

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing, be a starter or key reserve and possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

District VII College Division includes NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
