SIMPSON’S EVERDING NAMED VOLLEYBALL MVP; COE’S WOODIN NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR; VOLLEYBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM ANNOUNCED

November 3, 2006

CEDAR RAPIDS , IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Simpson College senior outside hitter Tiffany Everding (Tripoli, Iowa/Tripoli) has been named the 2006 IIAC volleyball Most Valuable Player and Coe College head coach DeAnn Woodin has been named 2006 IIAC volleyball Coach of the Year.

Everding led Simpson (24-10 overall, 6-2 IIAC) to a share of its seventh Iowa Conference Championship, first since 1994, and the top-seed in this weekend’s Conference Tournament. She averaged 3.99 kills and 3.46 digs per game, and had a .251 hitting percentage (515 kills-186 errors-1310 total attempts) in 34 matches (129 games) prior to the Tournament. She hit over .300 in 15 matches, reaching double digits in kills 31 times and digs 23 times, recording 23 double-doubles. Everding tied for third in the Conference in digs per game and 11th in hitting percentage.

In eight Conference matches (28 games), she averaged 4.50 kills and 3.75 digs per game while hitting .237 (126-53-308). She ranked second in kills, and 12th in hitting percentage and digs per game.

Woodin, in her first season at Coe, led the team to a 5-3 Conference record and the #3-seed in this weekend’s Conference Tournament where it enters with a 25-6 overall record. The Kohawks finished above .500 in Conference-play for the first time since joining the IIAC in 1997. Their five wins are the most against Conference foes since 2000, and the third-place finish is their top finish ever. Among the team’s 25 wins, which is the fourth-highest win total in the 30-year history of the program, are two victories over defending National Champion, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Coe has been ranked fourth in each of the four NCAA Central Regional rankings released and were ranked in four American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) polls, climbing as high as 23rd in their first-ever appearance in the poll, while receiving votes in four other polls.

The IIAC also announced today the 2006 volleyball All-Conference Team. The 16-member Team includes nine repeat All-Conference performers including two – Central’s Tessa Prati and Wartburg’s Ashley Rogers – who are three-time All-Conference selections. Conference co-Champions Central and Simpson each had three All-Conference players including two First Team members. Coe also had three All-Conference selections, one on the First Team and two on the Second Team.
