CEDAR
RAPIDS , IOWA . . . Four Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (IIAC) volleyball players and four IIAC football
players were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District
VII College Division Teams selected by the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced on Thursday.
Iowa
Conference Most Valuable Player Tiffany Everding (Tripoli,
Iowa/Tripoli) an outside hitter from Simpson College was named
to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District volleyball First
Team. Simpson middle hitter Jessica Martin (Toledo,
Iowa/South Tama) and University of Dubuque middle blocker Jena
Goedken (Lamont, Iowa/Starmount) were Second Team selections
while Dubuque libero Abby Hillard (Galena,
Ill./Dubuque Wahlert) was a Third Team honoree. Martin was a
Third Team Academic All-District selection in 2005.
Central
College defensive back Ben Bollard (Pella,
Iowa/Pella), Wartburg College receiver Kyle Duchman
(Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) and Wartburg defensive
back Nick Noble (Riceville, Iowa/Riceville)
were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District football
First Team. Coe College sophomore defensive back Tom
Breitbach (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) was a Second
Team selection. Duchman was a Second Team Academic All-District
selection in 2005.
Everding
is a senior psychology and sociology major with a 3.8 grade
point average. Martin is a senior psychology major with a 3.7
GPA. Goedken is a junior nursing major with a 3.39 GPA. Hillard
is a senior elementary education major with a 3.89 GPA.
Bollard
is a senior computer science major with a 3.77 GPA. Duchman
is a senior biology major with a 4.00 GPA. Noble is a senior
political science major with a 3.76 GPA. Breitbach is a sophomore
undeclared major with a 4.00 GPA.
Academic
All-District First Team members move on to the national ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-America® ballot. The ESPN The
Magazine Academic All-America® volleyball Team is scheduled
to be announced on Tuesday, November 28 and the football Team
is scheduled to be announced on Thursday, November 30.
To be eligible
for selection to the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete
must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing,
be a starter or key reserve and possess at least a 3.20 cumulative
grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
District
VII College Division includes NCAA Division II, NCAA Division
III and NAIA schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana,
Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
