259 STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

CEDAR RAPIDS , IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for the Fall 2006 season. Two hundred fifty-nine student-athletes from the Conference’s eight fall sports met the requirements for recognition.

To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

The Fall 2006 All-Academic Team is comprised of 103 juniors, 85 seniors and 71 sophomores. Luther College has a Conference-high 55 student-athletes on the Team followed by Coe College (36 student-athletes), Wartburg College (35 student-athletes) and Central College (29 student-athletes).

Sixty-nine of the student-athletes are cross country runners, 42 women and 27 men. Sixty-seven of the honorees are soccer players, 41 women and 26 men. Rounding out the All-Academic Team are 39 football players, 36 volleyball players, 26 women’s tennis players and 22 women’s golfers.
