LORAS’ MATT BRUMFIELD AND SANTIAGO MEJIA NAMED D3KICKS.COM ALL-AMERICANS;
NINE NAMED TO D3KICKS.COM ALL-WEST REGION TEAMS

January 3, 2008

CEDAR RAPIDS , IOWA . . . Loras College men’s soccer players Matt Brumfield (Davenport, Iowa/Assumption) and Santiago Mejia (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) have been named D3Kicks.com All-Americans as announced by the online publication Wednesday, January 2. In addition, Brumfield and Mejia are two of nine Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) men’s soccer players named to the D3Kicks All-West Region Teams.

Brumfield, a senior defender and the 2007 IIAC Men’s Soccer MVP, was one of the centerpieces of this year's Duhawk defense. Loras held IIAC opponents to one goal in eight league games and helped the Duhawks post a shutout streak that, at one point, extended to over 1070 minutes and included 11 straight shutouts. Brumfield, who notched a pair of assists while starting all 25 games, was also honored for his academics and is an accounting major with a 3.37 grade-point average.

Mejia, a sophomore midfielder, was the Duhawks’ second-leading scorer with 25 points after posting five goals and a team-high 15 assists.

In addition to Brumfield and Mejia, fellow Duhawks Matt Pucci (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and Nate DuBois (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) were named to the All-West Region First Team. Pucci, a senior forward, led Loras in scoring with 35 points on 17 goals and an assist. DuBois, a freshman goalkeeper, played in 19 games, starting seven, posting a 15-0-1 record with a 0.20 goals-against average, a .955 save percentage, and 64 saves.

Loras junior defender Matt Splittgerber (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown), Central College senior forward Cody Stoermer (Coralville, Iowa/Iowa City West), and Wartburg College senior midfielder Casey Johnson (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert) and senior forward Luke McClyman (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) were named to the Second Team. Splittgerber started all 25 games for the Duhawks, notching one goal on seven shots from his defender position. Stoermer broke Central’s career records for points (137), assists (39), shots (304), shots on goal (154), game-winning goals (10) and games started (77) while setting school season marks for goals (19), assists (12), shots (91), shots on goal (52) and points (50). Johnson started all 21 games for Wartburg, finishing tied for fourth on the team in scoring with 10 points on four goals and two assists. McClyman led the Knights offensively with team-highs in points (31), goals (12), assists (7) and game-winning goals (4).

Loras freshman midfielder Miguel Bonilla (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) was selected to the Third Team. Bonilla was the Duhawks’ fourth-leading scorer with 20 points on eight goals and four assists.
