NAMED TO CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine
ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT® TEAMS

CEDAR RAPIDS , IOWA . . . Three Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) basketball players have been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District® VII College Division Teams released February 7. Central College men’s basketball player Brett DeHoogh (Clive, Iowa/Valley [West Des Moines]) was selected to the First Team, while Buena Vista University women’s basketball player Margo Muhlbauer (Manilla, Iowa/IKM) was named to the Second Team and Wartburg College women’s basketball player Elizabeth Campbell (Rockford, Iowa/Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock) was named to the Third Team.

DeHoogh, a senior guard for the Dutch who carries a 3.89 grade point average majoring in mathematics, was named to the squad for the third consecutive year and is now under consideration for academic all-America honors. He was a second-team pick last year and a third-team choice in 2006. He’s also a three-time Academic All-Iowa Conference honoree.

In his fourth year as a starter for the Dutch, DeHoogh holds the school assists records for a game (13), season (141, in 2005-06) and career (443). He’s averaging 9.7 points and is the team’s second-leading rebounder with 5.5 per game. DeHoogh also ranks second in free throw percentage (77.8), is first in steals (1.6) and first in assists (4.5).

Muhlbauer, a sophomore guard who carries a 3.78 GPA majoring in accounting, is both the team and league leader in scoring at 19.8 points per game. Heading into a Feb. 9 game at Cornell, she has 836 points in 48 career games and is shooting just better than 46 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free-throw line this season. Defensively, she is hauling in 4.5 rebounds per game and is second on the team in steals with 33.

Campbell, a senior guard who has a 3.61 GPA majoring in biology, is Wartburg’s leading scorer at 13.5 points. She also leads the team in blocked shots (0.9) and minutes played (27.7). Campbell is also second on the team in three-point field-goal percentage (37.8) and rebounds (5.5).

To be eligible, nominees must have reached sophomore status, while also completing at least one academic year at her current institution. The student-athlete must also be a starter or key reserve (playing in over 50 percent of the team’s games) with legitimate athletic credentials, and must also hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 (on a 4.0 scale).

Selections for the women’s CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Team will be released Tuesday, Feb. 26. The men’s CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Team will be released Wednesday, Feb. 27.
