INDIANOLA,
IOWA . . . Simpson College's Katelyn Whiton
(Sr., Panora, Iowa, Perry H.S.) was named to the 2008 National
Collegiate Athletic Association Division III State Farm Coaches’
All-America Basketball Team on Mar. 21. Whiton is the first
Simpson athlete to be named first team All-American since Laurie
Sankey earn the honor in 1984.
Whiton
led the Storm to their second consecutive Sweet 16 appearance
as Simpson posted a 27-3 record this past season. The 5-10 forward
was named Iowa Conference MVP, selected as 1-of-10 finalists
for the Josten's Trophy, and was named D3hoops.com West Region
Player of the Year. Whiton led the Storm in scoring (16.3 ppg)
and rebounding (7.3). She shot a team high 53.9 percent from
the floor.
This
year’s team marks the first State Farm Coaches’
All-America Team, as Eastman Kodak held the previous sponsorship
for 25 years. Selection committees in each of the eight WBCA
geographical regions select 10 of the top women’s basketball
players in the nation to be honored.The members of the 2008
NCAA Division III State Farm Coaches’ All-America Basketball
