WINTER ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for the Winter 2007-08 season. Seventy-six student-athletes from the Conference’s five winter sports met the requirements for recognition.

To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

The Winter 2007-08 All-Academic Team is comprised of 29 seniors, 29 sophomores and 18 juniors. Luther College has a Conference-high 19 student-athletes on the Team followed by Loras College (12 student-athletes), Coe College (11 student-athletes), Buena Vista University, Simpson College, and Wartburg College (all with 7 student-athletes).

Forty of the student-athletes are basketball players, 23 women and 17 men. Twenty-three of the honorees are swimmers and/or divers, 17 women and 6 men. Rounding out the All-Academic Team are 13 wrestlers.

Luther College senior Tony Brantner (football/basketball) is the only members of the 2007-08 Winter All-Academic Team to earn similar honors during the fall season.
