RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Five Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (IIAC) softball players were named to the 2008 Louisville
Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America
Teams announced by the Association on Thursday. The IIAC honorees
include three First Team selections and two Third Team selections.
Luther
College senior catcher Tami Magner (Waukon,
Iowa/Waukon), Simpson College sophomore outfielder Kelsie
Host (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) and Wartburg College
junior pitcher Angela Hartwig (Long Grove,
Iowa/North Scott) were named to the First Team. Host and Hartwig
were chosen at their positions while Magner was an at-large
selection.
Central
College senior catcher Kelly Harris (LeClaire,
Iowa/Pleasant Valley) and Simpson College senior pitcher
Calie Hohneke (Indianola, Iowa/Indianola) were named
to the Third Team.
Magner
is a repeat NFCA All-America selection, having been named to
the Second Team in 2007. She is also Luther's second repeat
All-American (Danielle Kittleson, 1989-90). Hartwig, the 2008
Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Year, becomes Wartburg's sixth
All-American, marking the third straight season a Knight has
received all-America honors. Host and Hohneke are Simpson's
first All-Americans since 2003 when Sara Kahler was honored.
Harris, the 2008 Iowa Conference Player of the Year, is Central's
18th All-American and the first since pitchers Libby Hysell
and April Miller were chosen in 2003.
