NFCA Release

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Five Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) softball players were named to the 2008 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Teams announced by the Association on Thursday. The IIAC honorees include three First Team selections and two Third Team selections.

Luther College senior catcher Tami Magner (Waukon, Iowa/Waukon), Simpson College sophomore outfielder Kelsie Host (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) and Wartburg College junior pitcher Angela Hartwig (Long Grove, Iowa/North Scott) were named to the First Team. Host and Hartwig were chosen at their positions while Magner was an at-large selection.

Central College senior catcher Kelly Harris (LeClaire, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) and Simpson College senior pitcher Calie Hohneke (Indianola, Iowa/Indianola) were named to the Third Team.

Magner is a repeat NFCA All-America selection, having been named to the Second Team in 2007. She is also Luther's second repeat All-American (Danielle Kittleson, 1989-90). Hartwig, the 2008 Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Year, becomes Wartburg's sixth All-American, marking the third straight season a Knight has received all-America honors. Host and Hohneke are Simpson's first All-Americans since 2003 when Sara Kahler was honored. Harris, the 2008 Iowa Conference Player of the Year, is Central's 18th All-American and the first since pitchers Libby Hysell and April Miller were chosen in 2003.
