RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Thirteen Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (IIAC) baseball players were named to the 2008 American
Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Central Region
Team announced by the Association on Monday. The IIAC honorees
include one First Team selections, five Second Team selections
and seven Third Team selections.
Wartburg
College senior pitcher Aaron Saeugling (Dubuque,
Iowa/Wahlert) was the IIAC's lone selection to the First Team.
Luther College junior catcher Jake Waddle (Coon
Rapids, Iowa/Coon Rapids-Bayard), Coe College junior catcher
Tyler McAllister (Ursa, Ill./Mendon-Unity),
University of Dubuque senior third baseman Alex Martinez
(Rio Linda, Calif./Grant), Wartburg College junior outfielder
Jerrold Martijn (Calbas, Aruba/Kirkwood C.C.),
and Simpson College junior pitcher Jared Sass
(Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City) were each named to the Second Team.
Earning
Third Team All-Region honors were Simpson College junior Jason
McClaflin (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk), University
of Dubuque senior shortstop Danny Cantu (Chicago,
Ill./Maine South), Luther College senior shortstop Jeff
Hiatt (Dubuque, Iowa/Senior), Buena Vista University
junior outfielder Brandon Pietrzyk (Portland,
Ore./Marshall), University of Dubuque senior outfielder Michael
Ramos (Culver City, Calif./Culver City), Simpson College
senior pitcher Jake Ritchey (Indianola, Iowa/Interstate
35), and Luther College pitcher Adam Kohls
(Hampton, Iowa/Hampton-Dumont).
Four
of the All-Region honorees have previously received similar
recognition. Saeugling was also a First Team selection in 2007,
while Hiatt and Kohls were on the Second Team and Martinez was
on the Third Team last year.
