MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . Cornell College has named Dave Roe as head women’s and men’s golf coach, it was announced by Director of Athletics John Cochrane.

Roe, a native of Mount Vernon, replaces Jim Dickerson, who resigned last month after 13 years in the program.

Roe is the Golf Professional at Jones Park Golf Course in Cedar Rapids, where he has worked the past two years. He held previous positions as superintendent at Gardner Memorial Golf Course in Marion for 14 years and assistant superintendent at Cedar Rapids Country Club for seven years. Roe was president of the Iowa Golf Course Superintendents Association in 2003 after serving on the board for four years.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Dave Roe’s caliber to lead our women’s and men’s golf teams,” Cochrane said. “Dave’s professional teaching background, passion for developing the program, and commitment to providing an outstanding experience for our student-athletes will enable him to have an immediate impact on the success of our programs.”

Roe played golf one year at Kirkwood Community College, where he was the team’s Most Valuable Player and earned his Turf Management degree in 1988. Roe played two years at Mount Mercy College and received a business degree there in December 1989.

Roe and his wife, Stacy, have three children, Jordan, 15, Marissa, 11, and Amanda, 7.

“I have always enjoyed having Cornell in Mount Vernon,” Roe said. “Cornell has a great relationship with the high school and kids. For the community, it’s awesome to have that connection with Cornell.”

The Cornell women open the season at the Cropper Invitational Aug. 29 at Hunter’s Ridge in Marion.
