MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . Kerry Kahl has joined Cornell College as sports information director. He began his duties July 25.

Kahl, a 1999 graduate of Central College, served as sports information director at Iowa Wesleyan College for the past two years. He also was an assistant baseball coach for two seasons at Iowa Wesleyan.

Kahl takes over at Cornell for Darren Miller, who spent 10 years as the Rams’ sports information director. Miller recently accepted a new position as director of new media in the sports marketing department at the University of Iowa.

“We’re excited to have someone with experience and expertise in sports information, as Kerry has shown, to continue the fine work Darren provided during his tenure here,” said Dick Simmons, assistant director of athletics at Cornell.

Kahl, a native of Lowden and 1995 graduate of Clarence-Lowden High School, was a student assistant in the sports information department for four years at Central. He played baseball one season at Central and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications.

Kahl was sports editor at the Mount Pleasant News for one year (1999-2000) and a sports writer at The Hawk Eye in Burlington for five years (2000-2005), prior to being hired at Iowa Wesleyan in August 2005.

Kahl and his wife, Melissa, are expecting their first child in March.
