STORM LAKE, IOWA . . . Buena Vista Director of Athletics Jan Travis has announced that Eric Wiebers will take over as head men’s golf coach beginning this fall, while also staying on as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team.

Wiebers has spent the past five years as either a player or coach at BVU, including the last two as an assistant coach for the Beaver men's basketball team. He will take over the helm of the men’s golf team which placed second at the 2007 IIAC Championships – its highest finish in 17 years.

“I'm very excited about the opportunity to lead the men's golf program here at Buena Vista University,” Wiebers said. “As a player and as a coach at BVU over the last five years, I have been fortunate enough to be a part of some very successful teams, and I am looking forward to helping this team pursue that same kind of success.”

This marks the first head coaching job for Wiebers, who is eager about the direction the program is headed.

“Buena Vista is a terrific institution with outstanding support for athletics,” Wiebers added. “With that support, and a terrific facility like Lake Creek Country Club, this is a program that has the potential to have a lot of success. I'd like to thank President Moore, Keith Betts, Jan Travis, and Brian VanHaaften for allowing me this great opportunity.”

“We are very fortunate to have Eric guiding our men’s golf program,” Travis said. “With his successful athletic background, and his strong recruiting ability, the program is in good hands and we have no doubt he will build upon its recent success.”

Wiebers replaces Jim Nurse, who resigned following last season, after guiding the Beavers since 1998.
