DUBUQUE,
IOWA . . . Dan Runkle, university athletic director,
announced the promotion of Robbie Sieverding
to head men’s basketball coach for the University of Dubuque
effective October 1, 2007.
“I am pleased to welcome Robbie Sieverding to our full-time
head coaching staff,” commented Runkle. “Robbie
has the game skills, the leadership, and the commitment to move
the Spartan men’s basketball team through successful seasons.
He is well-respected by the team and I believe this will be
a smooth transition for our student-athletes.”
Sieverding, a native of Bellevue, Iowa, has been an assistant
coach in basketball and head men’s golf coach at the University
of Dubuque since 2002. A standout student-athlete at Marquette
High School, he continued his athletic career at Marshalltown
Community College from 1997-98, transferring to the University
of Northern Iowa where he played from 1998-2002. Sieverding
received All Missouri Valley Conference honors in 2000 and 2002;
along with finishing his career 6th on the UNI All-Time Scoring
List, as well as 6th on the UNI All-Time Assist List.
Sieverding graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with
a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Studies with a minor in
coaching in 2002 and received his master's degree in athletic
administration from Loras College in 2007.
Marty McDermott, current head men’s basketball
coach, has accepted a position as director of athletics at Muskegon
Community College in Muskegon, Michigan., beginning in October,
2007.
