CEDAR
RAPIDS, IOWA . . . A pair of Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (IIAC) soccer players have been recognized by D3kicks.com
as part of its Team of the Week for the week ending October
28, 2007. Loras College senior midfielder Katee Whitney
(Aloha, Ore./Valley Catholic) was named to the week’s
elite team as was Wartburg College sophomore goalkeeper Trent
Michael (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale). Whitney and Michael
were recognized by the IIAC earlier in the week as the league’s
Women’s and Men’s Soccer Players of the Week.
Whitney
scored twice against Luther College in the Duhawks’ regular-season
finale in Decorah Oct. 27. She twice sent corner kicks into
the back of the net. The first came in the 23rd minute, while
the second came nine seconds from the end of overtime for the
game-winner. Whitney has scored five goals in 2007. The win
secured a perfect 8-0 record in conference play for Loras as
well as the top seed in the IIAC Tournament.
Michael
ended the week with four wins and a 0.00 goals-against average
in over 327 minutes in net for the Knights. He posted complete-game
shutouts over UW-Platteville (3-0) and regional power Elmhurst
(3-0) and shared shutout wins over IIAC foes Dubuque (3-0) and
Simpson (5-0) to drop his season goals-against average to 0.54.
Michael has been part Wartburg’s current string of 11
straight wins and seven straight shutouts.
Both
Whitney and Michael will be action this weekend (November 2-3)
in Dubuque as Loras College hosts the 2007 Iowa Conference Men’s
and Women’s Soccer Tournaments. The IIAC Champion Duhawks
are the top seed in the women’s bracket, while the Wartburg
men are seeded second to host Loras in the men’s bracket.
