CEDAR
RAPIDS , IOWA . . . Seven Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (IIAC) football student-athletes were named to the
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII College
Division Football Teams selected by the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced on Thursday.
Wartburg
College wide receiver Kyle Duchman (Cedar Falls,
Iowa/Cedar Falls), Coe College defensive back Tom Breitbach
(Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier), University of Dubuque
defensive back Mark Mashburn (Homedale, Idaho/Homedale),
and Central College linebacker Greg Altmaier (Iowa
City, Iowa/City) were named to the Academic All-District VII
College Division First Team.
Luther
College running back Tyler Sherden (Rochester,
Minn./John Marshall), University of Dubuque offensive lineman
Michael Fielding (Harvard, Ill./Harvard), and
Cornell College linebacker Chris Gustafson
(Lakewood, Colo./Bear Creek) were named to the Second Team.
Duchman
is a senior biology major with a 3.98 grade point average. Breitbach
is a junior business and economics major with a 3.88 GPA. Mashburn
is a senior criminal justice major with a 3.61 GPA. Altmaier
is a senior accounting major with a 3.74 GPA. Sherden is a senior
physical education major with a 3.40 GPA. Fielding is a senior
aviation major with a 3.53 GPA. Gustafson is a senior economics
and business major with a 3.38 GPA.
Academic
All-District First Team members move on to the national ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-America® ballot. The ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-America® Football Team is
scheduled to be announced on Thursday, November 29.
To
be eligible for selection to the Academic All-District Team,
a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic and athletic
standing, be a starter or key reserve and possess at least a
3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
District
VII College Division includes NCAA Division II, NCAA Division
III and NAIA schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana,
Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
