INDIANOLA,
IOWA . . . Simpson College Athletic Director John
Sirianni has announced the resignation of Storm Head
Football Coach Jay Niemann. The Storm finished
the season Nov. 10 beating Buena Vista University 14-3 at home.
Niemann coached the Storm for six seasons (2002-07). He was
named Iowa Conference Coach of the Year in 2003 after leading
the team to a 9-2 record and a berth in the NCAA Division III
playoffs. With the victory against Buena Vista, he finishes
his tenure with 32 wins, third most in school history.
Sirianni said Niemann's strong work ethic has set an excellent
example for the hundreds of student-athletes he has coached
during his tenure at the college.
"Jay is an outstanding role model and mentor for our student-athletes,”
Sirianni said. "These young men are fortunate to have played
for and learned from Coach Niemann. His positive influence in
their lives will extend far beyond their days at Simpson."
Niemann said his years at Simpson have been among the most meaningful
of his coaching career, and thanked the players and coaches
for their dedication and hard work.
"I
have really enjoyed my experience at Simpson," Niemann
said. "I will always cherish my relationships with the
players, their families, and the coaches. There are many great
memories, including the national playoff appearance. My hope
is that each player has become a better man through participating
in our program."
"We made the decision as a family that it is time to look
for other opportunities, Niemann continued. "whether inside
or outside of the coaching profession. I wish Simpson and the
Storm football program continued success."
A search for the new coach will begin immediately.
