CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Eighteen Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) football players were named to the D3football.com All-West Region Team announced by the on-line publication on Friday, December 7.

Central College senior quarterback Tim Connell (Eldora, Iowa/Eldora-New Providence), senior linebacker Greg Altmaier (Iowa City, Iowa/City High), and senior cornerback Guy Dierikx (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale), Luther College senior offensive guard Jon Stavast (Chaska, Minn./Eden Prairie), Coe College junior kick returner Tom Breitbach (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier), and Cornell College linebacker Chris Gustafson (Lakewood, Colo./Bear Creek) were named to the First Team.

Earning Second Team All-Region honors on offense were Luther senior running back Tyler Sherden (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) and Dubuque junior tackle Steven Coleman (Miami, Fla./Coral Gables Senior).

Defensive selections to the Second Team were Coe junior defensive end Jordan Wilkens (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk), Buena Vista senior linebacker Cody Pierce (Spencer, Iowa/Emmetsburg), and Dubuque senior cornerback Mark Mashburn (Homedale, Idaho/Homedale). Central freshman punter Kurtis Brondyke (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) was the Second Team punter.

Central senior wide receiver Cody Huisman (Mason City, Iowa/Mason City), Dubuque senior offensive guard Michael Fielding (Harvard, Ill./Harvard Community), Wartburg senior offensive tackle Ben Hogan (Greenfield, Iowa/Nodaway Valley), Wartburg senior defensive end Eric Bruhn (Cylinder, Iowa/Sentral [Fenton]), Central senior linebacker Andrew Lehn (Packwood, Iowa/Pekin) and Coe senior safety Jeremy Squires (Center Point, Iowa/Center Point-Urbana) were Third Team selections. Breitbach was also named to the Third Team at cornerback.

The Teams, selected in balloting by West Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 195 nominations by Division III member schools. It is the third time D3football.com has chosen All-Region Teams. A total of 76 players were named to the West Region Team.
