SIX IOWA CONFERENCE SCHOOLS TO COMPETE
AT NWCA/CLIFF KEEN NATIONAL DUALS

CEDAR RAPIDS , IOWA . . . Six Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) wrestling programs have been selected to compete at the 2009 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA)/Cliff Keen National Duals presented by Hibiclens being held Saturday-Sunday, January 10-11 at the UNI-Dome on the campus of he University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

Top-ranked and defending National Duals and NCAA Division III champion Wartburg College will lead four IIAC schools to the mats during the tournament’s opening session at 9 a.m. Saturday. The Knights are the No. 1 seed and will open against Wabash College.

Luther College, ranked 15th in the most recent NWCA poll, is seeded ninth and will meet No. 8-seed Olivet College.

University of Dubuque is seeded 12th and will face No. 5-seed Wisconsin-La Crosse, while fourth-seeded Coe College will face No. 13-seed Concordia-Moorhead in the final 9 a.m. first round match.

Cornell College and Buena Vista University hit the mats for the first time during second session at 11 a.m. Saturday. The 11th-ranked Rams are seeded seventh and will face No. 10-seed Johnson & Wales (R.I.) in the first round, while the unranked Beavers are seeded 15th and will No. 2-seed Augsburg College.

Wartburg, Luther, Dubuque, and Coe will return to the mat in either championship quarterfinal or consolation preliminary competition at 1 p.m. Saturday with Cornell and Buena Vista to follow at 3 p.m. The entire tournament schedule is as follows this release.

With six of the IIAC’s nine schools competing at the 2009 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals, only the Division I Big Ten Conference (eight of 11) has a greater representation of schools. A total of 16 schools from the Hawkeye State will be competing at this year’s National Duals with the University of Iowa (NCAA I), Iowa State University (NCAA I), University of Northern Iowa (NCAA I), Upper Iowa University (NCAA II), Briar Cliff University (NAIA), Morningside College (NAIA), Northwestern College (NAIA), Ellsworth Community College (NJCAA), Iowa Central Community College (NJCAA), and North Iowa Area Community College (NJCAA) joining the six Iowa Conference schools.
