USTFCCCA ANNOUNCES
DIVISION III CROSS COUNTRY ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS
WARTBURG'S CHENOWETH NAMED D-III MEN'S SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced recently that 10 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) cross country squads and 13 individuals have received All-Academic honors for the 2008 season. In addition, Wartburg College senior Brian Chenoweth has been named the USTFCCCA Men's NCAA Division III Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year.

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.10 team cumulative grade point average.

A total of 156 women's and 103 men's programs at the NCAA Division III level received the USTFCCCA All-Academic team award. Seven IIAC women's programs were honored, led by Simpson College with a 3.557 team cumulative grade point average. Other IIAC women's honored were Luther College (3.535), Cornell College (3.472), Wartburg College (3.400), University of Dubuque (3.300), Loras College (3.300), and Coe College (3.225). Men's squads from Luther (3.376), Simpson (3.343), and Wartburg (3.220) also received team honors.

For an individual to be eligible for the USTFCCCA Division III Cross Country All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA and must finish in the top 25 percent of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet.

A total of 221 female and 131 male student-athletes received the USTFCCA Cross Country All-Academic honor in 2008. Wartburg led all Iowa Conference schools with six honorees (one male, five female). In addition to Chenoweth, Wartburg women's runners Anna Kraayenbrink, Amanda Kuiken, Jennifer Kuiken, Lori Tlach, and Emily VanOosbree were honored. Luther had three runners honored - David McKay, Elise Bennett, and Flannery Cerbin. Coe's Ashley Schnell, Cornell's Rachelle Hawkins, and Loras' Mary Bridget Corken and Tara Kilburg were also recognized.
