CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Five Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) basketball players, four women and one man, have been named to the eighth annual D3hoops.com All-West Region Teams.

Buena Vista University junior Margo Muhlbauer (Manilla, Iowa/IKM) and Loras College junior Lindsay Bava (Downers Grove, Ill./Montini Catholic) were selected to fill the All-West Region First Team guard slots. Muhlbauer is a repeat selection to the First Team after being named to the Second Team as a freshman in 2007. Simpson College senior forward Carrie Larson (Tipton, Iowa/Tipton), the 2008-09 Iowa Conference MVP, was named to the Third Team along with Wartburg College senior center Sharese Van Sloten (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah). Muhlbauer and Larson are finalists for the WBCA/State Farm Coaches' All-America Team.

Buena Vista University senior guard Andre Wagner (Omaha, Neb./Northwest), the 2008-09 Iowa Conference Men's Basketball MVP, was the league's only representative on the All-West Region Men's Team, being named to the First Team. Wagner was a Third Team selection last season.

Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, who were contacted multiple times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. There were 662 players nominated nationwide, a new high. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for 10 players in their region. SIDs voted for six frontcourt players and four backcourt players, to ensure balance.
