LAKE, IOWA . . . Buena
Vista junior baseball player Brandon Pietrzyk
(Portland, Ore./Marshall) has been named to the 2009 D3baseball.com
All-America Second Team as an outfielder which was announced
late Tuesday night. It marks the first such honor in his career
and he's the first Beaver to earn All-American accolades since
Nick Beard was named to the American Baseball
Coaches Association Third Team in 2002.
Pietrzyk,
who was also named to the All-IIAC First Team for the second
straight season in 2009, led the team and the conference in
average (.447), RBI (57), total bases (117), stolen bases (27)
and tied for the league lead in runs scored with 51. He also
posted a new school record for hits in a season (71) and was
second in home runs (8). In addition, he also posted a career-best
29-game hitting streak.
Among
500 ranked players in DIII this season, his average ranked 43rd,
while he sat 25th in hits and 32nd in RBI.
For
the year, he tallied 22 multi-hit games, including 11 with at
least three base knocks. His best game of the year came against
the University of Chicago where he went 5-for-5 with a double,
triple, three RBI and three runs scored.
The
lone IIAC player on any of the three teams, he was a key component
for the Beavers who tied a school record with 27 wins this season
and earned the fifth-seed into the Iowa Conference Tournament.
BVU was also ranked as high as 14th in the D3baseball.com poll.
Pomona-Pitzer's
Drew Hedman was named the D3baseball.com Player
of the Year, while Trinity's (Conn.) Jeremiah Bayer
was named the Pitcher of the Year.
