STORM LAKE, IOWA . . . Buena Vista junior baseball player Brandon Pietrzyk (Portland, Ore./Marshall) has been named to the 2009 D3baseball.com All-America Second Team as an outfielder which was announced late Tuesday night. It marks the first such honor in his career and he's the first Beaver to earn All-American accolades since Nick Beard was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association Third Team in 2002.

Pietrzyk, who was also named to the All-IIAC First Team for the second straight season in 2009, led the team and the conference in average (.447), RBI (57), total bases (117), stolen bases (27) and tied for the league lead in runs scored with 51. He also posted a new school record for hits in a season (71) and was second in home runs (8). In addition, he also posted a career-best 29-game hitting streak.

Among 500 ranked players in DIII this season, his average ranked 43rd, while he sat 25th in hits and 32nd in RBI.

For the year, he tallied 22 multi-hit games, including 11 with at least three base knocks. His best game of the year came against the University of Chicago where he went 5-for-5 with a double, triple, three RBI and three runs scored.

The lone IIAC player on any of the three teams, he was a key component for the Beavers who tied a school record with 27 wins this season and earned the fifth-seed into the Iowa Conference Tournament. BVU was also ranked as high as 14th in the D3baseball.com poll.

Pomona-Pitzer's Drew Hedman was named the D3baseball.com Player of the Year, while Trinity's (Conn.) Jeremiah Bayer was named the Pitcher of the Year.
