BUENA VISTA'S PIETRZYK AND WARTBURG'S MARTIJN
NAMED TO RAWLINGS/ABCA ALL-AMERICA TEAMS

May 22, 2009

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Buena Vista University junior outfielder Brandon Pietrzyk (Portland, Ore./Marshall) and Wartburg College senior pitcher Jerrold Martijn (Orangestad, Aruba/Kirkwood C.C.) have been named to the 2009 Rawlings NCAA Division III All-America Teams as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Friday. Pietrzyk was named to the Second Team, while Martijn was selected for the Third Team.

Pietrzyk, who also received honors from D3baseball.com and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association earlier in the week, is the first BVU player to earn All-American accolades since Nick Beard was named to the ABCA Third Team in 2002. He led the Beavers in hitting with a .447 batting average, .736 slugging percentage, a .503 on-base percentage, 71 hits, 51 runs, 57 RBI, and 27 stolen bases in 41 games. Pietrzyk also had 12 doubles, five triples, and eight home runs.

Martijn, the 2009 Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Year, is Wartburg's first All-American since Aaron Saeugling was named to the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Third Team in 2007. He finished the year with a 10-2 record, a 3.70 earned run average, and 94 strikeouts in 90.0 innings pitched. He made 13 appearances with seven complete games, including two in the Iowa Conference Tournament.
