DUBUQUE, IOWA . . . Loras College President James Collins '84 announced to the institution Monday the hiring of Brad Soderberg as Interim Director of Athletics beginning July 8, 2008. Brad was the head men's basketball coach at Loras from 1987-1993 where he amassed a 79-45 record in five seasons in his first head coaching position.

Soderberg's most recent position was as head men's basketball coach at Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, Missouri, where he went 80-74 from 2002-2007. He also had successful stops at the University of Wisconsin and South Dakota State University. As a head coach, the Wisconsin native had winning records at each institution and boasted a 100% graduation rate.

President Collins added in a communication to the department that Soderberg, "has genuine regard for Loras and a strong willingness to assist us at this juncture. I believe his passion, integrity, skill-set, knowledge of Loras and intercollegiate athletics will serve us well."

Soderberg was equally excited about his return to Loras College and Dubuque, Iowa.

"Both myself and the rest of my family are really thrilled to be back in Dubuque. I've always had a warm spot in my heart for Loras because they gave me the chance to be a head basketball coach at 26 years old," Soderberg said over the phone Monday.

"I just have so much respect for the institution, their mission, and the Catholic identity they promote with their students,” Soderberg stated. “I am excited to be back at Loras in this capacity.”
