USTFCCCA HONORS FOUR IIAC INDIVIDUALS,
TWO MEN'S TEAMS WITH ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Four Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes and two teams were named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2009 Division III Men's All-Academic Track and Field Team.

Luther College, with a 3.249 cumulative team GPA was the highest ranked Iowa Conference team award recipient, followed by Simpson College at 3.132.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event. For a team to be nominated, it must carry a minimum 3.100 cumulative grade-point average.

A total of 186 student-athletes representing 78 Division III colleges and universities made up the 2009 All-Academic team. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Tufts University led the way with the most student-athletes on the list with eight selections each, followed by the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse with seven.

There were 51 Division III men’s track and field programs were recognized as 2009 USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Teams. The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the University Athletic Association landed the highest number of member schools on the list, with six schools from each conference attaining All-Academic Track & Field recognition. Colorado College recorded the highest overall team GPA with a 3.490, followed by Haverford College, which carried a 3.466 team GPA. Kenyon College recorded the third-highest cumulative GPA with a 3.450 team average.
