USTFCCCA HONORS 31 IIAC INDIVIDUALS,
SIX WOMEN'S TEAMS WITH ALL-ACADEMIC RECOGNITION
WARTBURG COLLEGE NAMED 2009 TRACK & FIELD SCHOLAR TEAM OF THE YEAR

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Thirty-one Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes and six teams were named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2009 Division III Women's All-Academic Track and Field Team.

Simpson College, with a 3.569 cumulative team GPA was the highest ranked Iowa Conference team award recipient, followed by Luther College at 3.505. Cornell College (3.333), Loras College (3.253), Wartburg College (3.227), and Central College (3.132) also made the list.

In addition, Wartburg College was selected as the 2009 Indoor Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year and as the 2009 Outdoor Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year. Wartburg swept the women’s indoor and outdoor track and field team championships this year.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event. For a team to be nominated, it must carry a minimum 3.100 cumulative grade-point average.

A total of 274 student-athletes representing 91 Division III colleges and universities made up the 2009 All-Academic team. Calvin College led the way with the most student-athletes on the list with 13, followed by Wartburg College and University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, each with 12 student-athletes on the list. For conferences, the WIAC had the most student-athletes on the list with 35 followed by the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with 31, and the New England Small College Athletic Conference and New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference, each with 19.

There were 100 Division III programs that made up the women’s 2009 All-Academic Teams. The Centennial Conference, Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, University Athletic Association, and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference led all conferences with six teams selected from each conference as All-Academic Teams for 2009. Shenandoah University led all institutions with a 3.676 team cumulative GPA, followed by Whitworth University with a 3.641 team GPA. Carleton College had the third-highest cumulative GPA with a 3.590.
