DUBUQUE,
IOWA . . . David Hammel of Dubuque, Iowa was hired
earlier this month to fill the vacant men’s tennis head
coaching position left by Pete Weber at the
end of the 2007-2008 academic year. Hammel was Weber’s
assistant last season.
A
native of Dubuque, Dave’s playing career includes time
with the Dubuque Senior High School squad and two seasons as
a student-athlete at Loras College. Beyond his interscholastic
competition, he regularly competes in local tournaments, including
the Mississippi Valley Open and at Alpine Tennis & Fitness
Center.
“I’ve
been playing this game for 20 years and absolutely love it,”
Hammel said recently. “And I love the fact that I can
share the tennis experience at Loras now. I’m excited
to be taking over the program and I’m looking forward
to the spring season.”
The
Duhawks were 3-10 overall last year. Two of those wins came
in the Iowa Conference.
