CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . Loras College defensive lineman Kenny Kikilas (Jr., Hickory Hills, Ill./Marist) and Luther College linebacker Alex Mierau (Sr., Rushford, Minn./Rushford-Peterson) have been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week ending Oct. 4 for their performances on the field against Cornell and Central, respectively.

With a cast on one hand, Kikilas had four tackles for loss and three sacks among his nine tackles in a 42-0 homecoming win over the Rams.

Mierau recorded a 97-yard interception return with 1:16 remaining in the first half, stopping a Central drive with the Dutch leading 7-6 at the time.

His interception return was a new school record and was a huge momentum swing in a game where the Norse defeated the nationally ranked #24 Dutch 26-7. The old record of 96 yards was set in 1976 by Troy Pendleton against Upper Iowa, and matched in 1986 by Kurt Hughes, also against Upper Iowa. Mierau was also credited with eight tackles and two pass break-ups during the contest.

The complete team can be found here.

Loras (3-1, 2-0 IIAC) hosts Buena Vista (3-1, 3-0 IIAC) in a mid-season battle for the conference lead, while Luther (2-2, 2-1 IIAC) steps out of league play to face NAIA Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. Both games are slated for 1 p.m. kickoffs.
