CITY, IOWA . . . Coe College captured its third consecutive
Iowa Conference women's tennis title with a 5-2 win over No.
2-seed Luther Saturday at the University of Iowa's Don Klotz
Outdoor Courts.
The
Kohawks captured two out of three doubles matches to lead by
a single point heading into singles play. Hillary Allen
put Coe up 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, only to
see Luther’s Cami Czech register a 6-1,
6-4 win at No. 6 to draw the Norse back within one. Three-time
IIAC MVP Molly Fiala edged Coe closer to the
title with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 and doubles partner Andrea
Schupbach closed out the match with a 6-1, 1-6, 1-0
(5) win at No. 3 singles.
No.
4 seed Central edged No. 3 Cornell, 5-3, for third place, while
Simpson took fifth place with a 5-2 win over Wartburg Saturday
morning. In the third-place match, the Dutch overcame a 2-1
deficit following doubles with four singles wins.
The
Iowa Conference Women’s Tennis Individual Tournament will
take place Oct. 17-18 at Veterans Memorial Tennis Complex and
Cornell College. Draws will be released early next week.
